Continuing to live the legacy this Mandela Day
JAM International is celebrating Nelson Mandela Day on July 18, in partnership with our friends, donors and supporters in every single JAM outpost.
From our head office in Johannesburg, South Africa to Angola, Rwanda, South Sudan, Mozambique and our fundraising ‘affiliate’ offices in Germany, Switzerland, Canada, USA and the UK, we are all joining hands to celebrate the legacy of one of the 21st century’s greatest icons. JAM’s hope is that those of us moved by Mandela’s example ‘stand up’ and give 67 minutes of his or her time to benefit someone else in remembrance of his 67 years of struggle for social justice.
Headquartered and based in Mandela’s country of birth, South Africa, JAM is continually inspired by the legacy “Tata”(or Father, as he was affectionately known to South Africans) left us. Everyone has a different memory of Mandela, but one-uniting memory that all of us carry in our hearts is how much he loved children. As a child focused organisation, we believe that our work in feeding over 1.1 million beneficiaries – the majority of whom are children – daily in five African nations is a fitting and living tribute to Mandela.
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” JAM’s Nutritional School Feeding Program symbolised by our iconic “Red Bowls” is a proven method of improving school attendance and health of children. Without JAM’s support many of these children would simply go to school hungry.
JAM invites all of those who have a heart for the children of Africa to partner with us this Mandela Day. Our hope is that we can raise enough this Friday to feed 67 children for just $30 a child.
