uBuntu Awards Ceremony To Go Ahead
We announced a few weeks back that the annual uBuntu Awards ceremony – of which Joint Aid Management International (JAM) is a recipient – had been indefinitely postponed.
However, South Africa’s Department of International Relations (DIRCO), who are also custodians of the annual event, have confirmed the event will now officially take place on Thursday 22 March at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
JAM International is honoured to be named in the category of Social Responsibility to acknowledge South African individuals and groups who have projected a positive image of our country internationally through excellent programming in their chosen fields.
“Through excellence in their chosen fields, the proud South Africans are recognised for serving as global ambassadors of the nation. These are South African citizens, who, through their Integrity, passion, patriotism and humility have raised the South African flag high on an international stage,” the presidency said in a statement.
As one of the country’s longest running NGOs, JAM has been at the forefront of the war against hunger since 1984, when founder Peter Pretorius was left stranded in Pambarra, Mozambique, for 10 days. There he witnessed the horrific consequences of starvation, with children and families dying every day around him. Along with his wife Ann, they committed their lives to supporting the fight against hunger in Africa.
In over three decades, JAM progressed as an organisation that reflects strong and expansive development. It has grown into a global movement that affects visible change in the lives of African children and communities through a multi-pronged approach that includes, among others, the rollout of emergency response, agricultural development, school feeding and nutritional assistance, as well as clean and safe water supply in some of the hardest-to-reach parts of the continent.
